Education

Through our early childhood program, SCM provides nutrient-rich porridge to 4,000 children aged 0-8 across 15 communities, ensuring they receive essential nourishment five days a week. This vital initiative is made possible by the dedication of 120 community teaching volunteers who tirelessly support our mission.

SCM’s work in education involves engaging with village communities, developing comprehensive teacher manuals, and providing teacher training. We also create structured teaching timetables and devise innovative methods to effectively teach large groups of children despite a limited number of teachers.

Health

Somebody Cares offers essential health services in rural and peri-urban slum communities, supporting families and primary caregivers in managing chronic diseases such as TB, cancer, and HIV/AIDS.

In our health-focused initiatives, we concentrate on assisting critically ill patients, a significant portion of whom are living with HIV/AIDS. Our primary objective is to ease the burden on primary caregivers by providing crucial support. Volunteers play a pivotal role in this effort, contributing to the development of training manuals, and offering essential primary care through regular visits to chronically ill patients.

Your dedication and willingness to serve in our Home-Based Care Program can make a significant difference in the lives of individuals and families affected by HIV/AIDS.

Youth

YAFORCE (Youth Alliance for Change) is Somebody Cares Ministries youth arm.

SCM provides essential support in rural communities to nearly 500 young people. Recognizing their potential for lasting change, our mission with young people revolves around empowering them through skill development, moving away from solely focusing on agriculture within the community. We provide support to youth through spiritual, social, and economic training, aiming to educate them comprehensively for a better quality of life. Join us in building a brighter future for Malawi’s youth.

Somebody Cares Ministries is rooted in biblical principles and integrates pastoral teachings across all programs, aiming for holistic individual development, especially in spiritual well-being.

The Pastoral department (known as Berean) plays a pivotal role in supporting Home Based Care through spiritual guidance for the sick, teaching the Word of God in feeding programs, mentoring youth on family values, ethics, and addressing Gender Based Violence by offering counseling and advocating against violence.

Furthermore, Somebody Cares Ministries offers a comprehensive 1-year biblical training program tailored for pastors and church leaders. This program enhances their accessibility to quality biblical education, empowering them to serve their communities more effectively.

Construction

We are dedicated to enhancing communities by creating safe havens for children to thrive. Through our feeding centers, we ensure that children have access to nutritious meals while they learn in a safely built structure. Additionally, we prioritize clean water access by drilling boreholes and constructing toilets to promote better sanitation practices.

Recognizing the vulnerability of many community structures to adverse weather conditions due to traditional mud and grass construction, we advocate for better building methods. Partnering with Creacon (Creative Constructions), we champion environmentally friendly building practices while also providing vocational training opportunities for youth.

This collaboration not only promotes sustainable development but also ensures accessibility to high-quality building materials for long-term community resilience. Join us in building a better Malawi.

Gender Based Violence

SCM’s “Silent No More” initiative  actively addresses gender-based violence, with a particular emphasis on supporting women and children.

Through this program, we’ve trained over 200 lay counselors across rural communities to provide crucial support to survivors and champion their rights. We facilitate connections between victim support units, hospitals, and traditional courts. Our program empowers women to speak out and urges churches to address sexual violence, acknowledging their historical silence on this issue. We educate community leaders on the importance of opposing violence in all its forms.

Additionally, our refuge, known as the House of Mercy (HOME), serves as a temporary safe haven and after-school program for young survivors, providing not only shelter but also opportunities for skill development and empowerment. Join us in making communities safer for all.
